Sweet Potato Chips

Sweet potato “chips” are one of my favorite snacks. They are a comfort food. Satisfying and tasty. I have “chips” in parentheses because no matter how hard I try, I can’t get them perfectly crispy or like the pics in the magazines. I don’t have a fancy slicer to get them paper thin, which I believe is what you need to get them crispy all over. But you know what? I. don’t. care. They are so good the way I make them, kind of half chewy, half crispy. I like to switch up the flavors too. You can make a…

Feed It Like You Believe It

Keeping it short and sweet this week. Summer’s winding down and my kids are only home for a few more days until school starts! Agh!

Anyway, I’ve been thinking lately….

I don’t think most people know how amazing they are. Otherwise I don’t think we would have the health crisis that we do.

I believe that in general, the foods we eat are a reflection of how we feel about ourselves and eating well is a form of self-respect. I’m not talking about the fun and necessary indulgences that are a part of celebrating and enjoying life. I’m not even talking about…

10 of my Favorite Food “Rules” from Michael Pollan

I recently picked up Michael Pollan’s Food Rules to re-read. This is one of the very first books I read on my journey to discover true health, before I ever began studying nutrition. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a small book of food wisdom about what real food is and how we should eat it. It aims to keep eating simple, and teaches that food is as much about pleasure and community as it is about nutrition and health. It’s a book less about rules, really, than rules of thumb. I enjoy reading this book as a…

Strawberry Basil-Lime Smoothie

Ooh, does this just taste like summer!

Here’s a heads up though. There is a reason I took a photo BEFORE I blended it all up and it’s not just to be all artsy. This smoothie contains 2 different color foods, green and red. And if you remember your days in elementary art studying the color wheel, green + red = brown. Not pretty for a smoothie, but unfortunately how many of them turn out! So let the “before” picture inspire you to make this one, because the “before” picture is a whole lot more appetizing and actually resembles what…

Living Naturally with Essential Oils

This past week, I’m just going about my day and one of my sons says,

“Mom, can you do that thing where you put the coconut oil in my ear?” (This is how I treat ear infections without antibiotics) I said, “Why, does it hurt? Do you think you have an ear infection?” He said, “No, I just think it feels good.” Me: “Then, Ummm, No.”

Then he proceeds to tell me about his dream from the night before where someone was performing chiropractic work on him to cure some illness he was having. In his dream it was like magic…

Oh my. I want to tell you to just get in your car. Head to the store. Buy the ingredients for this smoothie. And make it. Now.
